The Accessibility 2030 Pavilion will debut at the World Urban Forum 2024 (WUF) in Cairo, Egypt, on 4th November 2024. This pavilion is the first of its kind at WUF, fully dedicated to making cities welcoming and accessible for everyone, and it brings together key stakeholders, urban planners, policymakers, advocates, and community leaders for in an interactive exhibition space for a series of inspiring workshops, panels, and discussions on why accessibility is a critical lever for inclusive sustainable development.
The Accessibility 2030 Pavilion, led by key partners including the Global Disability Innovation Hub, the UK Aid funded AT2030 programme, the World Blind Union, the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, and the Global Disability Summit, will feature an engaging lineup of workshops, panels, and discussions. Supporting partners, including the International Disability Alliance (IDA), University College London (UCL), CBM Global Disability Inclusion, General Assembly of Partners’s constituency groups of Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities, Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (G3ict), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), WHO’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, the Wayfinding Centre, the Cities for All network, and City Space Architecture, are contributing their expertise to this initiative.
“The Accessibility 2030 Pavilion represents a groundbreaking opportunity to drive meaningful change for inclusive urban environments. Bringing together such a diverse array of experts and advocates underscores our collective commitment to making cities accessible and welcoming for all people, regardless of age, ability, or background. This is a critical step forward in realising inclusive urban design.”
Iain McKinnon, CEO, Global Disability Innovation Hub
With its dynamic schedule of interactive sessions, the Pavilion will bring together urban planners, policymakers, architects, and advocates from around the world to explore innovative solutions for building accessible, inclusive cities. The pavilion also displays resources from the partners - from digital contents, resources, and guidance. To support the accessibility of the Pavilion, a digital hub has been created with the contents displayed in the space to allow people to access content in diverse formats. This is available at www.at2030.org/accessibility-2030.
The Pavilion aims to engage all WUF participants to share what an inclusive city means to them through a series of interactive boards on display in the space. This collaborative space aims to inspire transformative discussions, spark new ideas, and foster partnerships to make cities inclusive for all.

“This pavilion marks an important moment in creating a dedicated space at the World Urban Forum to discuss accessibility and inclusive cities. What is most special is that this brings together a diverse set of partners to collaborate on achieving this goal. This recognises that a future of inclusive cities will be built together, in partnership, with persons with disabilities. At GDI Hub we’re excited to be a part of this journey and share our learnings from five years of research on inclusive city design. We are excited to see this Pavilion lay a strong foundation for a movement of accessible urban design that will have a lasting impact globally.”
Mikaela Patrick, Head of Research and Delivery, Global Disability Innovation Hub
"We're excited to be at the Accessibility Pavilion at the World Urban Forum, supporting our member, the World Blind Union. This 10-year mark of the SDGs is an ideal time to organize Training of Trainers module B, helping participants deepen their understanding of the development agenda. At the Urban Expo, we're hosting activities where organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) will connect directly with practitioners to showcase their work. This event is also an opportunity to gather commitments for urban spaces designed with and for persons with disabilities, ahead of the Global Disability Summit 2025."
José Viera, Interim ED, International Disability Alliance (IDA)
The twelfth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), convened by UN-Habitat, will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 4 to 8 November 2024, returning to the African continent after more than 20 years since its inception in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002. Under the theme “It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities,” WUF12 will focus on localizing the Sustainable Development Goals and on the local actions and initiatives required to curb current global challenges.
